Unique Telomere Probes For Targeted Testing

With the identification of a complete set of unique subtelomere probes, the hypothesis that telomeric imbalances contribute to a significant proportion of idiopathic mental retardation cases is now being more thoroughly examined.

Multiple strategies are being used to design whole genome telomere assays suitable for large population screening, including:

FISH - clinical testing now available

CGH-arrays

multi-color FISH (M-FISH)

spectral karyotyping (SKY)
